Jerry
developed a successful addiction treatment program over a 14-year
period. During this time he researched hundreds of techniques which can
help individuals break their addictions to alcohol and drugs. In 1991,
this research culminated with the publication of his first book, How to
Quit Drinking Without AA.
His
original goal was to help himself. In his personal life, he had struggled
with addictions to alcohol and various drugs. By 1981, he broke the last
of these addictions, the one to alcohol.
After
its initial release, How to Quit Drinking Without AA quickly became a
top-selling recovery title. In 1994, an updated and revised edition was published
by Prima Publishing. By mid-2002, this self-help guide had sold
more than 75,000 copies. Also two foreign language editions--in Spanish
and in Russian--were released for distribution in 1993 and 1997
respectively.
His
second book, You Can Achieve Peace of Mind (Prima, 1994), was
co-authored with yoga instructor and stress management therapist Bob Davis. This book presents
over 140 methods that individuals can use to attain a calm inner-state.
In his third book, How to Quit Drugs for Good (Prima,
1998), he rewrites his successful recovery program for those who are
struggling with drug addictions. Following the same plan as his first book, this self-help
guide presents a complete, practical program with worksheets, checklists,
and exercises that help with every step of the process.
As an
expert on addiction and addiction treatment, Jerry has appeared on more
than 130 radio shows all over the U.S. and Canada and on seven local TV
shows. In addition, articles about his addiction treatment program,
including book reviews, have appeared in USA Today, The Chicago
Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Your Health magazine
(Cover Story), Natural Health magazine, Better World
magazine, and nearly every magazine, newsletter, and newsmagazine in the
addiction and recovery field. Jerry has himself written articles on
recovery that have appeared in The Counselor, Behavioral Health
Management, Professional Counselor, Addiction & Recovery,
Journal of Rational Recovery, The Northeast Recovery Networker,
and Journey.
He is
certified as a Baccalaureate Addictions Counselor (B.A.C) and holds two
academic degrees. Jerry has worked as a drug and alcohol counselor, as the
Director of a drug and alcohol counseling center in Pennsylvania, as a
